The final of the first Make-up Excellence Awards took place yesterday here at the school. It was such an exciting day and I think Sara and I were as nervous as the finalists!
´Summer in the City´
As I mentioned before the finalists were given the theme ´Summer in the City´. They all produced amazing moodboards taking inspiration from different facets of the city- the regeneration of the Cathedral Quarter, the shape of Tower bridge, the colour of a wig on a mannequin in a shop window, the colour and intensity of the setting sun bouncing of the walls of a skyscraper, the linear qualities of buildings, pollution, heat and dust.
Make-up
This translated into six beautiful, but very different make-ups, with each girls playing to their strengths. Every finalist introduced a lot of colour into their make-up, some in subtle washes, others in graphic blocks, with orange, blue and pink being the most popular colours.
Judging
The judges (Ulster Tatler´s Lara Salmon, Photographer Jim Crone, Style Academy director Tracey Hall and Make-up Artists Claire McEvoy and Clare McKinney) critiqued the finalists portfolios and thesis´s before the girls presented their make-ups and explained their own interpretation of the theme, backed up by their moodboard. They were then interviewed by the judges about their careers and ambitions in the make-up industry.
Winner
The winner will be announced on the first night of Spring into Summer (I know, it´s torture for the girls to have to wait so long...) The winner will receive hundreds of pounds worth of Mac products, a spread in Ulster Bride and a portfolio shoot with Jim Crone. All the finalists will receive priceless publicity.
